Top Bar Beekeeping in Arlington Heights

Not seeing any active flowers around the lake.  Not sure what blooms next.  Has to be something before goldenrod, no?

After really crazy rapid buildup, very little in the past week, even with good warm weather.  I think we are between flower blooms.

Probably could have waited on these two, but there are so many bees, wanted to give them room.  I am probably 2, maybe 3 bars from not being able to add any more and still be able to work the hive, so looks likely I will be wall to wall bees and will be harvesting some in a month or 2.

They are really packing in the nectar so far.  I have now exceed the size of last years hive, and look to being wall to wall in the next month or so.  Will be forced to harvest!

They sure were active, but smoke keeps them tame.  Just amazing how well smoke works. The hive is now one bar short of the biggest it was at the end of last year.  Certainly they will exceed that size. One bar again at end of brood and one in the honey area.  There were a couple bulges on combs here and there at the tops, but whatever.  If that's what they want.

Too hot, though.  95+ past 3 days.  Tomorrow in low/mid 80s, so hope I can add.  They are building like crazy.
