Second hive populated!

Chris Toomey came and brought 5 frame Langstroth NUC (nice guy), which we chopped and cropped.  Then I filled in the gaps to make spacing normal.  We did find the queen and shook her into the hive.

It was quite an experience, being so rough with the bees, and no stings.  We smoked a lot!

Bees are doing well

First orientation flights happened 1.5 weeks ago.  Colony is large, and building quite a bit of comb. Hope they have enough nectar.  The small yellow flowers around the lake seem pretty abundant right now. These bees seem slightly larger than last year's.  Not sure if that's possible.
